See Yanartaş's Flame Closer!
Where is here?
Yanartaş, close to Çıralı, a district of Antalya's Kumluca district, reflects the mysterious atmosphere of mysticism that manifests itself with the darkening of the sky. You can reach Chimaera or Yanartaş, which is known by few people, by passing through the shadow of the trees at dusk. Flames rising among the cliffs have been burning for almost a thousand years. Known as Eternal Fire, one of the miracles of Anatolia, this stone is located in Beydağları National Park, on the Çıralı and Olympos hills, at an altitude of 230 meters above sea level. The secret of Yanartaş has been revealed as a result of the researches and it is seen that it is mostly composed of methane gas. But no way has been found of where this methane came from. The reason was that the geological features in Yanartaş did not provide sufficient temperature for the formation of methane.
As a result of scientific studies, it is shown that the element ruthenium, which is one of the rare elements located just below the surface, can have a catalyst effect for methane. The gas leaking through the rocks can be reached up to 30 cm high and illuminates the environment in the form of a flame. It is thought that the fire was inspired by the Chimera monster in Homer's Iliad, the famous Ionian writer of the flames.
